- The perfect sweet ending to reunion dinners, parties and banquet-style feasts
Orh nee (芋泥) is a traditional Teochew dessert of mashed yam (taro), cooked until smooth and served warm. It's a favourite way to end Teochew banquets, wedding dinners and Chinese New Year reunion meals.
Shallot oil is what gives orh nee its rich fragrance, adding a savoury note that balances the sweet yam. It's traditionally topped with ginkgo nuts, and many modern versions add coconut milk for extra creaminess.
Our Orh Nee Set comes with our signature yam paste, coconut sauce, shallot oil and ginkgo nuts packed separately, so you can serve it warm and finish each bowl at the table. The yam paste is vegetarian; for a vegetarian option, leave out the shallot oil.
Planning a bigger meal? Orh nee is also part of our Golden Teochew Feast for 10 and Fortune High Tea for 20.
Is it halal?
Yes — this set is MUIS halal-certified and prepared in our halal-certified central kitchen.
Is it vegetarian?
The yam paste itself is vegetarian — just omit the shallot oil for a fully vegetarian serving.
